Somewhere Between the First Chill and the First Wreath

We’re not sure when it officially becomes the holiday season. Maybe it’s when the first wreath shows up on a neighbor’s door, or when Marfa mornings start to carry that crisp chill that makes you reach for a second cup of coffee.

Either way, it feels like the right moment to pause and say something simple: thank you.

A Year in the Desert

This year, our little desert home welcomed guests from all over, each arriving with their own reason for visiting. Some came to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, or elope under the stars. Others came for a girls’ weekend, a babymoon, or a long-overdue escape to somewhere that still feels a little off the map.

A few just needed space, to breathe, to reset, or to chase the West Texas light for a while.

Whatever brought you here, you added something to the story of this place. Every guest leaves a trace, a handwritten note in our guestbook, a book intentionally left on the shelf (our leave a book, take a book), a memory etched into the way the light hits the kitchen in the morning.

Connection, Not Perfection

The Milky WayFarer has always been about more than a comfy bed or a good view (though we’ve got both). It’s about connection, the kind that happens over morning coffee, shared laughter, or the quiet understanding that comes when you’re staring at a sky so vast it makes everything else fall into place.

Perfection doesn’t live here. The desert doesn’t do “perfect.” It does real. It does rust, warmth, and wonder. And somehow, that’s what makes it beautiful.

The Desert’s Quiet Magic

The desert, in its own way, keeps the rhythm of the seasons. There are no crowded malls or endless playlists on repeat, just a slower shift. The mornings turn crisp. The stars seem even brighter. The wind carries a whisper that something’s changing, even if you can’t quite name it.

Maybe that’s the desert’s version of the holidays, an invitation to slow down, to notice, to reconnect.

A Season of Stillness and Light

As the year winds down, we find ourselves grateful for the laughter that filled these rooms, the quiet moments shared with coffee cups and reflection, and for every person who’s made this little corner of Marfa part of their story.

So whenever the season of celebration begins, whether it’s now, when the lights go up, or somewhere in between, we hope it finds you surrounded by the same kind of warmth, connection, and wonder you helped bring here.

Here’s to slow mornings, bold sunsets, and another trip around the sun filled with good company, great coffee, and a sky full of reasons to look up.

Until next time - Rob and Becca
